Disney networks return to the plate after reaching a ‘handshake agreement’

Disney stations including ABC, ESPN, FX and the Disney Channel are back on Dish and Sling TV after the two sides reached a tentative agreement. term has reported. A total of 17 Disney channels disappeared from services on Friday, October 1 due to a transportation disagreement.

“We have reached a handshake agreement with Dish/Sling TV, which appropriately reflects fair market value and terms for … content from The Walt Disney Company,” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement. “As a result, we are pleased to temporarily restore our network portfolio while both parties work to finalize a new agreement.”

Dish accused Disney of holding “viewers hostage to take advantage of the deal, claiming that it wanted to include ESPN and ESPN2 on non-sports packages.” At the same time, Disney said Dish did not make it a fair offer to keep ESPN and National Geographic on Dish/Sling TV. “After months of good faith negotiations, Dish has refused to enter into a fair, market-based agreement with us for the continued distribution of our networks,” the company said. Last year, the Disney Channels disappeared from YouTube TV in December over a similar dispute, but returned just a day later. Meanwhile, HBO and Cinemax went dark at the plate in 2018, only making a comeback last year (along with HBO Max). As of the second quarter of 2022, Dish and Sling TV had around 10 million combined US subscribers, according to extra.
